Having left our native lands, we embarked on an adventure in a new world; a world full of sun, family fun, peaceful dwellings, and endless possibilities.

Saturday #7 - April 7, 2012

Another week and another set of memories.  Brad turned 36 this week with a very easy-going celebration of dinner out at CPK and a set of cupcakes from Sweet to take home.  Devon started to finally fall into a sort-of routine during the day with naps and eating - and he's taken on a few more hours of sleep at night - two nights in a row of 9 hours of sleep (and that even with napping a couple of times during the day!)

Friday night we took our first theme park trip to Seaworld with Jeanette and the girls.  He slept pretty much the whole time, but was WIDE awake for the Sea lion and Otter show; gasping at the big noises and visually overstimulated at all the people and lights.  He was a trooper and proved that we will all be able to enjoy these things in the future!

Enjoying a meal before the show.

Saturday was another day of firsts for Devon.  We spent much of the day just hanging out at home, but decided to head out to Steve's Diner in Titusville for some killer fried chicken.  We found a few extra hours of daylight to kill so drove out to explore Playalinda Beach.  Devon touched his toes in the Atlantic ocean for the very first time and didn't even cry.

On the way home, he made his first Twistee Treat stop (we know his godmother, Jenn will be so jealous!)

It wasn't exactly a warm evening on the Florida coast.  Here's the video evidence of his cold toes :)

Saturday #6 - March 31, 2012

We've taken the next step in parenthood with Brad going back to work - happy to report that all three of us survived the week and were ALL looking forward to Saturday!  Devon and I tried to break up the week with some visits with friends - a quick visit to Brad's office, spent a lunch hour with Jeanette and an afternoon with Lisa and the kids :)

We also received our latest shipment of cloth diapers - we are loving them and turns out to that routine is pretty easy for us.  And how cute is it with that big fluffy butt - It's so FLUFFY!!

Saturday was our first outing as a family as we headed to Food Truck Wars in Oviedo - a local event bringing together about 30 local food trucks for sampling.  Had a really yummy chicken skewer and spring roll at Louies Bistro /Casselberry  and a fun ice cream bar (choose your own dip and toppings) from Dip Stix /Tampa. Devon slept peacefully through the stroller tour of the event.

The big highlight of the week was the arrival of Devon's first pair of shades for the Florida sun!  He wasn't too excited about this thing strapped to his head, as you can see...

He will learn to love them!

Saturday #5 - March 24, 2012

A lazy Saturday around the Fox household as we try to settle into the next phase of parenthood.  Brad's parents headed home and we were on our own again for a few days.  The weekend brought the last weekend of Brad's FMLA and he heads back to work on Monday, full-time.  So, we spent the day just enjoying a Saturday home alone.

This week was Devon's one month birthday.  We whipped out the Oregon shirt and 1 month sticker to snap a picture of the little one's milestone.  Unfortunately, he wasn't too excited about this photo session.

Saturday #4 - March 17, 2012

This was a very special Saturday because Devon was baptized and welcomed into God's family.  Our friends and family gathered at Hope Lutheran Church to celebrate together.  It was made even more special because we had not only Hope's Pastor, Paul vonWerder, performing the ceremony, but also Devon's Granddad, Steve Fox.  Both of them blessed Devon and his parents and godparents with God's love and forgiveness.  After the touching ceremony, we all gathered at our house to enjoy the beautiful day.

During this week, Jenn came to visit and worked her magic on getting Devon to sleep during the day.  He pretty much fell asleep every time she picked him up - he loved it as much as she did.  Jenn has a long history with us - friends from UO, Matron of Honor in our wedding, and now Devon's godmother - she's such a blessing us and we are so excited to have her in Devon's life.

Anthony is Devon's godfather and a long time friend of ours in Florida.  He and Brad hit it off when they were both working at Bright House early on in our days of Orlando life.  Since then, he's been our fellow Disney lover, board games partner, and cat sitter (aka Tucker's BFF.)  He's full of love to give and with his family all the way up in Buffalo, NY, Devon gets to soak up what he's readily offering.  We are looking forward to many years of Disney adventures together from the eyes of a child!

Saturday #3 - March 10, 2012

This week we welcomed Steve and Barbara (Granddad and Grandma Fox) to Devon's visitor list.  They were excited to come out and spend some time getting to know their newest grandchild and Devon soaked up a lot of attention.  Grandma was Devon's personal singer and bottle feeder - Granddad was Brad's partner in the creation of our new master closet!

On this Saturday, it was business as usual from earlier in the week and Steve and Brad put the finishing touches on the master closet, which means Sunday is fill it up day!!

Saturday #2 - March 3, 2012

Hard to believe that we've survived our first week home!  We had a number of visitors come by...
Grandpa Colwell got to see Devon for the first time and realize just how heavy 10 pounds can be.

Fenna Owens (our good friend from church) got to claim some baby time.  She's excited to be his "Florida" grandma and is going to teach him to speak Dutch .

On this particular Saturday, we have Devon's first official photography session by Katie Hyser.  She was so patient and loving with him and got some great shots (and a couple really cute butt shots that we won't publish on the internet, but will drag out when he's 15!)
Our little (big) bundle of joy resting peacefully.

Saturday #1 - February 25, 2012

Our first Saturday home with Devon after the hospital stay at Winnie Palmer.  We had reached out to our Florida family for some help and the Lumbert's came to the rescue!  Jeanette and her girls, Abby and Averie, showed up with food and open arms to hold a cuddly baby.  Jeanette had made up a crockpot of her homemade spaghetti sauce and all the fixings for a future meal (or three!) for us, along with a bag of marinated chicken and all the sides for a BBQ evening.  We were so grateful for their company as we tried to figure out what to do with our new bundle of joy.  Mommy even fit in a nap on the couch :)

This was also the first Saturday (of MANY!) that Devon donned duckies!  How fantastic is it that Saturday is college football day, too ?!?
Everyone got in some baby-lovin time - even the sometimes shy Averie!

940 Saturdays

I was reading today about how many Saturdays there are between birth and college for a child - 940 (give or take).  That just seems so few in the life of a two-parent working family to try to squeeze out all we can of our life with Devon James.  And so begins our Saturday journey - rather than count down, we are going to count up starting with Saturday, February 25, 2012.
